I
found this on the Internet:
Puggles,
Labradoodles, and Jackapoos
–
What Are They and Which Do I Choose?

We’ve
all heard of them, they’ve been the latest craze in dogs, being sought after
by celebrity and regular folks alike. Fetching a pretty high price with such
darling little names as Puggle, Labradoodle and Jackapoo but what exactly are
they?

To put
it bluntly; these highly sought after dogs are nothing more than high priced
mutts, sure, we’ve all heard the claims of how the Puggle, a mix between a Pug
and Beagle takes away the breathing issues so often found in the Pug and brings
about a too cute mix of both breeds to give you a sweet, easy breathing big
brown eyed puppy or how the Labradoodle, a mix between a Lab and Poodle will
give the tenderness of the Lab but changes the hair just enough to give you a
practically hypoallergenic dog for those of us with allergy issues but are these
claims actually true?

Reading
just about anywhere on the Internet about these mixed breeds more often times
than not reads more like an infomercial than solid information backed up with
documented facts. The reader usually comes away with more questions than answers
and I’ve often wondered if someone calls the so called breeder within the next
five minutes will they thrown in a free pooper scooper?

The
Puggle. While it is true that the Pug is known to have some breathing difficulty
due to it’s short snout, a well bred Pug really has no more issue with its
breathing than any other shorter nosed dog and if that short snout bothers you
then perhaps it isn’t the breed for you. Beagles are often known for their
incessant baying, it’s a natural part of this dog and comes with purpose,
after all it is a dog used for hunting and it’s baying is there to assist with
that very function. By breeding the two together one leaves it to Mother Nature
on what traits from each breed will be carried forward and since we know what we
do about both breeds how willing are you to take the chance on that cute little
mixed breed not being the Puggle with horrible sinus issues that bays
constantly? There isn’t a person in this world that can say with certainty
that any two puppies from this type of breeding will ever be alike or that their
less than admired traits won’t be carried forward.

The
Labradoodle. We all know that when science makes a major breakthrough it becomes
world news, something talked about in every magazine, television show and
newspaper possible to let us all know that something pretty spectacular has
occurred yet has anyone out there heard the news on a truly hypoallergenic dog?
Bottom line here folks, it hasn’t happened and most likely never will. As long
as dogs continue to have fur the dog will continue to have dander and will
always be a potential problem for many that suffer from allergies. We could go
on and on discussing each and every new “designer” dog out there and how
each one has it’s own special but unproven claims to fame but again, what
really are the truths behind these high priced mutts?

The
truth is that less than reputable people have found an angle, another way to
attempt to make a profit from the general public and many are falling for it.
The worst part of it, this time their doing so at the expense of man’s best
friend, a living, breathing thing that wanted nothing but to give it’s
unconditional love. Both dog and human alike are being taken advantage of and
we, the general public are allowing it to happen. How is it that we’ve allowed
ourselves to accept such false claims and why in a society where millions of
homeless animals are put to sleep each year are we not only allowing but
praising the people who are bringing more mixed breed dogs into a world that
already doesn’t have enough room?

Did you
know that for every puppy that manages to make it’s way into someone’s home
three more are put to sleep? Yes, there are purebred dogs in shelters as well
but the majority of dogs in shelters today are mixed breed dogs. The only
difference between those mixed breed dogs and a Puggle, Labradoodle or any one
of the currently “hot” designer breeds currently being sold on the market is
in name only. Most shelters and rescues refuse to put those cute little names
with the dogs because the name is nothing more than a marketing tool for what
the dog really is and what the shelters call them, a mixed breed dog.

Before
you fall for the current hype, do yourself a favor and step back, ask yourself
how true the claims really are and what real difference would there be between
purchasing one of these “designer” dogs or going to your nearest shelter or
rescue and adopting one. I think you’ll find that the only real difference is
that your wallet will weigh much less when you walk away with your puppy from
that less than reputable designer dog breeder.
